Join the kids of Modesto Covenant Church as they use their Vacation Bible School to donate to a special MAI project in Togo, West Africa. The kids are bringing thier pennies (dollars and other coins too) to help kids in Togo light up a learning center.
They want to raise about $3,000 to build a small learning center for children in one of our communities. Rural families do not have electricity, and only have one hurricane lamp for the whole family. Children usually will not have access to light to do their homework and learn their lessons, because they must wait until very late when their mother is done with the lamp in the kitchen. By the time mothers are finished, the children are already too tired and often asleep. This has a huge impact on their performance at school. We would like to build a little learning center with a solar powered light so kids can come and do homework any time.
We have already built several of these learning centers in communities nearby, and it has brought a new revival in the children’s performance at school. We will be including a small playground for them to play on during free time.
The community will be actively participating with activities like bringing sand, digging holes, building, etc. which will give them a sense of ownership and pride in the learning center. This will also help spur on the children’s CHE ministry in these villages.
Will you join the kids during this week of VBS? You can donate now to help them reach their goal. If you’d like to really encourage this kids to give more, we are accepting matching donations as well. Contact us at April@med-amb.org for more information.
